Hi everyone. I hope everything is going very well, it's Wassim. First of all, I want to say thank you for providing such valuable resources for beginners, students, and anyone passionate about robotics. I applied for many internships this year, thinking that my university projects in robotics and mechatronics would help me land one, mainly just to gain exposure and real-world experience. Unfortunately, I faced a lot of rejections, which made me reflect and realize that I need to improve my skills and take things to the next level — and that's exactly why I'm here.

Right now, I'm focusing on strengthening my abilities in SolidWorks and Verilog, and I’ll be starting this beautiful course very soon, which I'm genuinely excited about.

I wanted to ask for some advice: Would you recommend applying my current SolidWorks skills to freelance work or a side hustle to learn how to deal with people, clients which could be beneficial for me in the future (even if it might slow down my skill-building and progress a little bit)? Or would it be better to focus fully on learning this summer and building a solid foundation, trusting that the right opportunities will come later?

I'm open to connecting with anyone who’s willing to share advice or guidance, and I would be more than happy to learn from your experience.

Thanks again, and looking forward to learning with all of you!

If you are a student and returning to school in the Fall, learning this summer could be a great use of your time. I'd commit to doing some sort of project or real-world application of robotics that you can publish on your resume/CV. You could even follow along on some of the open source tutorials that are out there, just to get experience building something. Then tweak it at the end to do something unique. If you need to make money, then taking up freelancing is a great idea. Be aware it may take a lot of time to set up, but once it starts rolling you will be in good shape, and this experience doing freelancing will serve you in the future as well.

As always though, start with the end in mind. Where is that you really want to get to? What actions this summer will help most you get there, given the current circumstances?
